Meet Suzi DeMara, Director of Care Net of Carbon County.
Back in the 60s and early 70s, Suzi was a hippie and part of the The Sexual Revolution. She has experienced almost everything from that generation. Since then, she had a spiritual awakening and has a desire to care for all the “wounded and hurting” that the Sexual Revolution created. She is now a part of the new Sexual Revolution, “Sexual Integrity.” Suzi has been married to her husband for over 40 years, and they have 4 grown children and 9 grandchildren.

Suzi has been the director of Care Net of Carbon County since 2000 and was instrumental in building the organization from its beginning. In 1982, she started volunteering at Birthright in Jim Thorpe, by offering free pregnancy tests, talking to the girls, and giving away baby clothes. In 1997, the Pregnancy Care Center of Carbon County was founded and set up shop on First Street in Lehighton. Suzi continued to volunteer in any way that she could and in 2000, Suzi was asked to become the director. After much prayer she agreed to take the position.

In 2003, the Board of Directors purchased a house at 531 Mahoning Street in Lehighton. In November of 2004, it was decided to become affiliated with Care Net, since the center was now doing so much more than Crisis Pregnancies.  And in 2017, a second location was added at 250 West Catawissa Street in Nesquehoning.

Suzi is a huge supporter of human life. Today she oversees the daily running of both Care Net locations, which includes several part-time employees and many other volunteers. All this while seeing 20-30 of her own clients each week.

Phone or stop by and ask Suzi to share her story. It is a message of Renewal and Hope!
